The Vikings get off to a winning start at Arena League Round 1

Last night the Vikings took a team of swimmers to Connah’s Quay for the first round of the Arena League. Every single one of the swimmers that took part swam with great skill, determination and with a desire to win. The competition was tough and after being neck and neck with the City of Chester team throughout the gala, the Vikings claimed victory with excellent performances in the final few relay events.
I would like to pay tribute to the swimmers, not only did they achieve a fantastic outcome, but they did so with grace, humility and tremendous sportsmanship. The team spirit was wonderful to see with every swimmer being supported by their team mates.
The coaching team are immensely proud of ALL Vikings swimmers. It’s true to say that we have the absolute pleasure of working with exceptional young people.
I would like to thank the coaching team (Nicola, Phoebe, Ian and Pat) for giving their valuable time and commitment to the cause last night, it was very much a team effort, on what was a very warm and humid poolside. Thank you to Alan Jones for providing his expert officiating on behalf of the Vikings and to Jen Blake for very kindly volunteering to fulfil the Check Recorder role.
So, as it stands the Vikings are currently top of the North West Arena Minor League. The next round will be on Saturday 10th November 2018. I would urge ALL swimmers to keep this date free in their diaries as we look to build on last night’s success. The team for round 2 will be selected following next weekend’s North Mids Championships. I know some swimmers were disappointed at missing out on selection for the first round. Make no mistake, the door is well and truly open and if you train hard and post fast times you will put yourself in consideration for selection.
A final message for parents, these children need and deserve your support at these events. I hope we can see a bigger contingent of parents travelling in support for the next two rounds. I know you already commit a lot of your time but please come and support your athletes, it’s exciting, enthralling and not to be missed!

See you at the pool,

Phil James
