Each swimmer competes against his/her personal best and points are awarded according to how well he/ she does relative to this time (See Points Awarded.)
Personal best times are displayed on the club notice board and will be updated after each gala.
Trophies are awarded annually at the Club Presentation Evening (usually January) for the top 3 swimmers gaining most points in each group. There are 4 galas throughout the year to collect points in. The maximum points that can be scored per gala are 30.
A swimmer starting in a group at the beginning of the competition may be promoted to a higher group on completion of the required qualifying times. The swimmer will however stay in their original group, at the start of the competition, for the calculation of aggregate points and awards. i.e. A swimmer starting in Group 1 in January may end up in Group 3 by October but will be scored throughout as a Group 1 competitor. This is to encourage progress and competition.
Entry into the competition must be into the Novice or Group 1 depending on the age criteria. If a swimmer can submit times from an approved gala or time trial which are accepted and authorised by the Competitions committee they may then enter at a higher group.
Swimmers swimming any Pointscore event for the first time without a personal best will be awarded 5 points for that event.
When a swimmer swims in a Pointscore event points will be awarded according to the "Points Awarded" section. Pointscore times will be posted on the day of each gala and will be retained on the Club Notice Board for approximately 4 weeks. Points awarded for the gala will also be displayed. Swimmers will be able to do better by understanding the system and competing in events where they have the best chance of doing well. The final results will be announced at presentation evening.
All events will be seeded according to the swimmers Personal Best times. Swimmers of different Groups will swim together in the events according to Personal Best times.
Freestyle events shall be swum as Frontcrawl.
The Pointscore times and points are held on the club computer. The organiser’s decision on the points and placings will be final. Swimmers must check their times published after each event and contact the competition organisers if there appears to be an error recording.
